The Recital

Welcome to the really big show. Evelyn this season completed her 5th or 6th dance class through the local rec center. We may need to actually spend some cash to elevate her skill and imterest in the finer things, or learn that she just can't cut the mustard. We'll see.

All I want for Christmas...

All Evelyn wants for Christmas is a Molly doll with glasses. All she really needs is her two front teeth. She lost both on the same day at school, which is the preferred location for maximum exposure and impact. You also get a little pendant to wear them home in.

Halloween

She's a lady bug. Her mother covinced her not to be a bloody ladybug.

The School Forest

Evelyn and Clio on a nature hike at the school forest. It was about 33 degrees and raining for the whole day. A joyous time was had by all. I will not be volunteering for next years woodland adventure.

Bananagrams

Evelyn after enjoying a game of Bananagrams. I got it for my birthday, this was the thank you note. Evelyn likes to make up not only the rules but words as well.

Cavity Time

Getting cavities was never as fun as with Dr. Tony. TVs mounted to the cieling, prizes in the lobby, not to mention the literal high you get. I wish I had it this good when I was little and we still had to spit in the little sink.

Olbrich Field Trip

I took 2 photos this day. In the first photo one of the girls had her knees to her chest and I asked that we all sit like ladies. Evelyn's pose was a result of that request. I suppose some ladies sit like that.

Birthday Party #1

Saturday there was a number of tots over for Evelyn's 6th birthday party. The bug theme was expressed through a piñata, paper goods, a bug egg hunt as well as swarming the gifts.

Look Dad, money.

Evelyn found 40 dollars in the parking lot at East Towne Mall. After exhausting all efforts to return it to its rightful owner, including but not limited to visting with the mall security officer it is still in her possession. After an acceptable waiting period, it will be spent or saved etc. Some day I will remind her that when she found 40 dollars I let her keep it and she owes me.

And you probably thought I was joking about Evelyn singing with a full band in front of a hundred or so people in a local tavern.

Sick Day

Evelyn is home sick today and as such I have some time to idle on the internet and update her blog. Recent achievements include but are not limited to:

A second loose tooth. The first one fell out at school and she received 2 $1 coins under her pillow.

She is reading at a level 10. For those of you who know what that is, why do you know what that is? Sandy tells me it is good, well past what is expected of a Kindergartner.

Sang solo with a live band in front of 150ish people at a local tavern. Seriously she did. I am looking into getting a photo from a friend of hers.

Evelyn's Camera

Evelyn took both of these photos. The upper image is of her sister, the lower is of her cousin Delaney. The earlier was taken with her very own camera that she got for Christmas from her Grandma Sally.

Puff the Magic Dragon

Evelyn's kindergarten class recently was featured during a Lapham assembly. The first ever Kindergarten performance featured the school song "Three cheers for Lapaham" and the perennial favorite "Puff the Magic Dragon." Her voice was discernable from the back row. She also received a 3 in music class on her last report card. I think that is like a B. She sings "clearly and in tune" according to her teacher.

Teacher's Pet

As the daughter of a teacher there was really no doubt that Evelyn would become a teacher's pet. She is after all a teacher's pet of sorts. Lapham School holds a quarterly awards ceremony so that by the year's end each and every student no matter how average will receive and award. Evelyn is far from average and her time came last week. Her award was for being a good cleaner and helper. Other awards range from being on time, once, to being a good friend. She has also made those achievements but was recognized for her kissing up.

The Wiggly Tooth

Evelyn's first wiggly tooth appeared at the end of her first week back to school after the winter break. As of the 19th day of January, almost two weeks later, there has been some additional wiggling and even a tug or two but it has remained intact. More information as news develops.

Photo Phun

For Christmas this year Evelyn received, among other things, many other things, a digital camera. The camera is the ind that can be dropped, kicked, spit on, draged into the sand box and left in the hot sun so and the picture quality suffers as such but here are a few of her first shots. The locales included both Madison WI and Syracuse NY.

Ouch!

Evelyn appeared in her first theatrical stage performance this Winter as a chorus member in the church pageant. She did though have a brief solo. She had to yell Ouch! as another little girl in the crown pinched her. She did very well and we practiced at home quite a bit, especially the pinching.
